A Cabrerra Asks: Why have they stopped making Asus Eee PC-like computers?
In 2008, I bought an Asus Eee PC. It ran normal Windows (XP) and I used it as my main computer in my then-current situation. It was cheap to buy, extremely portable and just felt "neat".
Since, I've regularly checked for an updated such computer, because I don't like the large size of a laptop and having to lug it around with a special computer bag and stuff. They are also never nearly as cheap as the Eee PC was.
Whether it "makes sense" or not, I find myself not desiring normal laptops, but it would sure be neat with such a "pocket PC" (not actually pocket-sized) with up-to-date specs. Perhaps based on a Raspberry Pi 5 or something.
Is there really no market for this kind of thing for some reason? The last thing I want is a "smartphone" spying on me with a locked-down crippleOS like Android or iOS. Typing on glass is also perpetually stupid, and I can't live without a mouse.
I'm unsure what physical dimensions "Chromebooks" have, but they are also highly unwanted by me since they are locked down to Google spying.
The Wikipedia article on "netbook" did not help.
I don't understand why these kinds of computers have apparently ceased to be made and sold. Do you?
